If your motorcycle battery is disconnected, you may want to know more than whether the engine can start again. Does its GPS tracker still work? What information can you check? The GS1000 has an internal backup battery, separate from the motorcycle battery. It can keep the tracker operating temporarily when its external power supply is lost. Sending new reports to Plaspy also requires mobile coverage and an active data connection.
The backup battery does not prevent a power disconnection or guarantee vehicle recovery. Its practical value is giving you another opportunity to receive information, review an alert and decide what to do next. This guide explains that distinction without requiring prior knowledge of GPS systems.
Two batteries with different jobs
The vehicle battery supplies power to the motorcycle systems. In normal operation, a GS1000 is installed with a compatible vehicle power supply. The smaller battery inside the tracker provides temporary backup if that supply is lost. It does not power the engine, start the motorcycle or replace the vehicle battery.
For example, a technician may need to disconnect the motorcycle battery during an authorized workshop visit. The tracker can temporarily switch to its internal reserve. If a data connection is also available, it may send information you can review in Plaspy. A change in power can be part of legitimate maintenance: the alert alone does not prove a theft or identify the person responsible.
The internal battery needs sufficient charge. Correct installation and checking repeated power interruptions are therefore important. The reserve is intended as temporary support, rather than a normal operating mode for days at a time.
Being powered on does not mean sending a fresh location
Three separate processes are involved. The tracker needs power to operate. Its GPS receiver needs suitable conditions to calculate a position from satellite signals. It then needs a SIM, an active data service and mobile network coverage to send a report to Plaspy. The backup battery supports the first process; it does not replace the other two.
- The receiver obtains a position. GPS satellites transmit signals to the receiver. The motorcycle does not send its location to the satellites.
- The GS1000 prepares a report. Depending on installation and configuration, this may include a location and compatible vehicle or device information.
- The mobile network carries the data to Plaspy. Transmission requires coverage and active data service.
- You review the information received. Your phone or computer also needs its own internet connection to access the platform.
A motorcycle inside a building may have difficulty obtaining a fresh GPS position, communicating over the mobile network, or both. If the map still shows a point, check the date and time associated with that location. Opening the map does not, by itself, prove that the device is reporting at that moment.

What to check after a power-disconnection alert
The GS1000 supports an external power-disconnection alert. Whether the relevant event appears in Plaspy and which notifications you receive depend on the installation, configuration and reports available. The platform provides context; it does not make every power change an emergency.
- Identify the motorcycle and tracker associated with the alert.
- Check the event time and the timestamp of the last location received.
- Consider whether there is a known cause, such as authorized maintenance or a battery inspection.
- If the information does not match what you expected, verify the situation through appropriate channels and seek help when needed.
- After authorized work, ask the installer to confirm that normal operation has been restored.
| Situation | What Plaspy can help you review | What it does not automatically prove |
|---|---|---|
| A workshop disconnects the vehicle power supply. | A compatible event received, its time and the last reported location. | That the motorcycle was stolen or the technician acted improperly. |
| The tracker is powered, but mobile coverage is insufficient. | The information already received and how old it is. | That an old location is the current position. |
| The internal battery runs out of charge. | The last report available and the context preceding the communication loss. | That backup operation can continue indefinitely. |
How long does the GS1000 backup battery last?
The product specification lists a 300 mAh battery and approximately two to four hours of backup operation. This is a reference, rather than a fixed guarantee for every situation. Charge level, battery condition, operating conditions and device activity can affect the actual result.
During that period, the tracker may remain active, but there is no guarantee that every location or alert will be received. The estimate is also not a reason to delay checking a situation that concerns you. Review the available information with its timestamps and limitations in mind.
What to confirm with your installer
Explain the outcome you need: checking your motorcycle from your phone and reviewing power changes when the device can report them. Ask the installer to check power compatibility, mounting, connectors, GPS reception, the SIM and communication with Plaspy. You do not need to understand the wiring to explain your objective.
Before considering the installation complete, request a functional check under safe conditions. Confirm that the tracker appears in the correct account, reports are received and the alerts you need are configured. Seeing a device name in a list is not a complete installation test.

Frequently asked questions about backup operation
Can the tracker battery keep my motorcycle running?
No. It is a reserve for the GS1000, rather than a power source for the engine or vehicle systems.
Can I check a location after the motorcycle battery is disconnected?
You can review the reports Plaspy has available. A fresh location requires the tracker to remain powered, obtain a position and transmit it. Always check the timestamp.
Does the alert tell me who disconnected the power?
It does not identify a person or explain the cause on its own. Consider the event together with authorized maintenance, the motorcycle condition and other information available.
Does the backup work without a SIM or mobile coverage?
The battery may keep the tracker operating, but it does not replace the data connection. Reviewing an existing map point and receiving a new report are different processes.
Should I replace a GS900 I already own?
This guide and the offer described refer to the GS1000. Do not assume another device has the same casing, battery condition or installation. Check the model you own and its installation compatibility.
